Vigil

Comfortable, a blessing,
but confined inside a body
that can't move or eat or speak.
Eternity waits to welcome him.
Last bedside vigil praying for a child
to stay a little longer, but today
same people pray for his grandpa
to let go, close his eyes
and see the light again.
Eighty-eight years,
over in a fingersnap,
then the real adventure
begins.
