If another grandchild is born,
perhaps he or she will
take the only remaining
combinations of 1, 2, and 8.

August 21.
Or maybe there will be
no more grandchildren.
The three I have are
special, each in his or her
own way.
Randy, 7-year-old birthday boy,
will be a Shamu trainer one day,
but also a vet, doing
double duty at Seaworld,
which he already knows
so well.
Focused, unusually so,
for one so young.
A Texan now, but a Tarheel
by birth. And an LSU Tiger.
A U of F Gator, depending on
who is playing on a particular day.
But almost always, unless he makes the trip
or I do,
the grandson
I love and miss, so far away.
