September 11, 2001

Surprise registers on every face,
concern, disbelief, growing horror
as one plane becomes two,
becomes three,
then four.
Unprecedented attack,

Church attendance spikes,
fades. Flags are everywhere,

Hysterical waves of suspicion
and fear calm over time.
Underneath, unseen, covert missions
punish those responsible.
We feel safe again. As safe as
we did that day.
Until...
