Back to Normal

There's a let-down when the task is finished,
chairs are put away, the floor is swept of
all the traffic from the celebration. Nothing
out of place to tell you something quite important
is afoot and you are right there in the midst,
a quite important part yourself. It's back to Normal,
or what passes for that state, the unspectacular,
mundane, delightful hours when no one's wond'ring
why you're late or if you thought to pick that
thing up, run that errand they requested. You've got
obligations, yes, a list of things to do before your
head will rest tomorrow night, but at the moment,
all that lies ahead is: hot shower, contacts out,
brush teeth and slip beneath the sheet
and dream of happy thoughts and love.
